2019 Oktoberfest
The Hurstwood Oktoberfest was a great success this year. Our hosts provided a lovely setting and great food, including fabulous grilled Brats and beer on tap. Much effort went into the festive decorations which were enjoyed most of all by the many children in attendance. The evening was clear and sunny, not too cold but with a definite
fall feel in the air.
Many lively discussions were overheard as neighbors connected with folks next door.

2019 Salmon BBQ

All,
What a fun time!
It was a beautiful day, weather wise . . .
sunny, bright, light breeze.
Everyone enjoyed meeting each other
face to face. It was such a pleasure to
see the neighborhood long-timers
mixing with the new arrivals. And by
new arrivals, I not only mean new
residents but also the little babies
and children. There are grandparents
and then there are grand-neighbors!
HCC was represented by 26 households
. . . we started coloring the houses as
people pointed out where they lived.
That was fun and people were really
engaged over the map. So, I have attached the color-coded lot map for your enjoyment. You’ll see yellow highlighted lots which show the attending households. Please let me know if anyone was accidentally omitted! I also included a cross-referenced list of lot number to resident names.
We enjoyed scrumptious Sockeye Salmon fillets. You might notice one lot on the color-coded map is shaded in pink (for salmon, naturally). That would be an honorary spot for John Webby, otherwise known as “The Man”, for without his generosity and follow through we would have been salmon-less. John runs the Trident Seafood’s processing plant in Alaska. He goes through the enormous hassle to air-ship freshly caught Sockeye Salmon fillets to us. Not frozen. Fresh caught, I swear, just hours before.
A lot of other great food was purchased and/or home-made, so nobody went hungry.
All in all, we had over 50 adults and a large number of wee little ones, too.
It was so heartwarming to see the shelter so crowded with our neighbors.
Big kudos to one and all, but perhaps a little bit of a more robust thank you to:
Susan Weholt, salmon chef extraordinaire . . . she brought her own spices and expertise. Wowsa! So yummy.
Karl Tegtmeyer, remarkable ‘burger and dog guy.
Dena Adante and Lauren Booth for the use of their grills
Aaron Weholt, transportation capt’n
And, of course, to all the helping hands to move the grub and stuff to and from the shelter.
Oh. Able assist goes to Mac Henderson for volunteering his trusty pickup truck.
